Ontario is home to 650 greenhouse flower operations growing cut flowers and potted plants all year long. Ontario flower growers produce more than 50 varieties of cut flowers and 150 varieties of potted plants. The top 10 cut flowers grown and sold in Ontario are: tulips, gerberas, snapdragons, spray chrysanthemums, sweetheart roses, alstroemeria, lilies, iris, roses and standard chrysanthemums.
Floriculture (flower farming) is the largest horticulture sector in Canada. And in Ontario, greenhouse floriculture employs 10,000 people, covers more than 54 million square feet of greenhouse space and contributes $2.7 billion to the Ontario economy each year.
Ontario growers are considered among the best producers in the world, a distinction achieved by employing the latest technology and growing techniques to bring a variety of fresh flowers to you.
If you live in the Toronto area, you may have seen some of our Pick Ontario promotions over the last several months. Bus shelters, transit posters and elevator door advertising are bringing the fresh Ontario flower message to downtown commuters.
